St. James Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Doha was consecrated in the name of St. James, brother of Jesus Christ, as one of the churches under the Holy throne of St. Peter of Antioch and the East.Jacobite Christian Believers from India who came to Qatar in search of a livelihood were longing to have a church for their worship since the beginning of 1970s.The commencement of the first Syrian Jacobite Congregation in Qatar was initiated by the present, Catholicose of Malankara Jacobite Syrian Church, His Beatitude Dr. Baselious Thomas I on 4 May 1979........
The St. James Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Doha – Qatar is under the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church head by His Holiness Moran MorIgantiusAphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, Supreme Head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church, who became the 123rdSyriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East when he was enthroned as Patriarch in Damascus on May 29, 2014. The Church in the present location commenced the operations on June 19, 2008. Prior to that it was functioning in a rented building in Doha. The construction of the Church building was completed in 2009 and the consecration of the Church was performed by His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas who was the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, on February 26, 2009.
